『a+u』3月号では、建築家6組による20の住宅を通して、アイルランドの建築を特集する。アイルランドの地面に建てられたこれら住宅群は、この島の一部として島のきわめて物理的な状況を描きだす。本特集は、建築家のトム・デポーとアンドリュー・クランシーをゲスト・エディターに迎え、両者の対話から始まった。「メランコリーも過去の栄光もなく」「幾度となく姿を変える大地」であると彼らが語るこの島では、乾燥と湿度、柔らかい光とはかない影、造形とその色付けが、住宅の質を浮かび上がらせる。20の住宅は、アイルランドという土地にすでに「つくられ、放棄され、みつけだされ」何かを探し求め、自分自身の言語を見つけだそうとする建築家らの試みである。住宅というかたちをとった個々の試みをここに集めることで、イメージ・ドローイング・テキストの群として誌面に見えてくるアイルランドの新しい建築を紹介する。

Feature: Irish Architecture──20 Houses by 6 Architects

a+u’s March issue presents Irish architecture through 20 houses by 6 architecture firms. These houses, nestled in the landscape of Ireland, paint a portrait of the physical conditions of the island. The feature begins with a dialogue between the guest editors, architects Tom de Paor and Andrew Clancy. The houses built on the island, which the guest editors describe as having “no melancholy or past glories,” are designed with discernable qualities of “dry and wet,” “soft light and fleeting shadows,” and “modeling and its staining.” The 20 houses are individual attempts by the architects to find something that was already “constructed, abandoned, found” and to discover their own architectural language in Ireland.
