新建築書店では、このたび刊行される、Penzel Valier初となるモノグラフ『Penzel Valier: Architecture, Construction, Design 2007–2024』を記念し、トークイベントを開催します。
本書は、彼らのデザインの原則を、主要作品の紹介とともにまとめた1冊で、複数の執筆者による論考が事務所の仕事を多角的に検証するほか、2007年から2024年までに手がけた竣工・構想・進行中のプロジェクトを網羅したカタログも収録されています。

2008年にチューリッヒで建築家Christian Penzelと構造家Martin Valierによって設立されたPenzel Valierは、この15年間で、建築とストラクチャーという二つの領域が交わる稀有な仕事を数多く手がけ、スイスを代表するデザイン事務所のひとつとして評価を確立してきました。
交通・インフラ建築からオフィス、スポーツ施設、集合住宅、インテリア、プロダクトまで、その仕事は幅広いタイポロジーに及びます。

当日はPenzel ValierよりThomas Volsdorf氏を迎え、聞き手には建築家の笠井太雅氏をお招きします。Penzel Valierの仕事を特徴づけるのは、建築・構造だけでなく、設備・building physics、さらにはプロジェクトマネジメントや施工管理までもが一つのチームとして統合される「学際的アプローチ」です。
本書に収められた数々のプロジェクトからも見て取れる、この分野横断的な協働がデザインプロセスにどのように組み込まれ、日々の設計・実務の中で具体的にどう表れているのかを伺います。

Thomas Volstorf Penzel Valier
1978年ドイツ・ノイブランデンブルク生まれ。2004年バウハウス大学ワイマール建築学科卒業。2006〜09年長谷川逸子・建築計画工房。2009〜22年山本理顕設計工場（横浜／チューリッヒ）。現在、Penzel Valier AGシニア・プロジェクト・アーキテクト。

笠井太雅（かさい・たいが）
1981年群馬県生まれ。2005年宮城大学事業構想学部デザイン情報学科卒業。2007年イーストロンドン大学大学院修了。2009〜23年山本理顕設計工場。2020年カサイタイガ＋チョンエヒャン建築事務所／KACH共同設立。現在、朝鮮大学校非常勤講師。

Thomas Volstorf × Taiga Kasai Book Launch Talk Event: Penzel Valier: Architecture, Construction, Design 2007–2024

Founded in Zurich in 2008 by architect Christian Penzel and structural engineer Martin Valier, Penzel Valier has spent the past eighteen years producing an exceptional body of work at the intersection of architecture and structure, establishing itself as one of Switzerland's leading design practices. Their projects span a wide range of typologies — from transport and infrastructure to offices, sports facilities, housing, interiors, and product design.
To celebrate the publication of Penzel Valier: Architecture, Construction, Design 2007–2024 — the firm's first monograph — we are pleased to host a talk event. The book brings together the firm's design principles alongside presentations of their key works. It features essays by multiple authors offering multifaceted perspectives on the practice, as well as a comprehensive catalogue of completed, unrealised, and ongoing projects from 2007 to 2024.

For this event, we welcome Thomas Volstorf from Penzel Valier in conversation with architect Taiga Kasai. What defines Penzel Valier's work is an interdisciplinary approach that integrates not only architecture and structure, but also mechanical and building physics engineering, as well as project and construction management — all within a single team. Through the many projects featured in the monograph, we will explore how this cross-disciplinary collaboration is embedded in their design process and how it manifests concretely in day-to-day practice.

Penzel Valier Born 1978 in Neubrandenburg, Germany. Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, Bauhaus University Weimar, 2004. Worked at Itsuko Hasegawa Atelier, Tokyo (2006–09) and Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop, Yokohama / Zurich (2009–22). Currently Senior Project Architect at Penzel Valier AG.

Taiga Kasai
Born 1981 in Gunma, Japan. Graduated from Miyagi University, Faculty of Project Design, Department of Design and Information Studies, 2005. Completed postgraduate studies at the University of East London, 2007. Worked at Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop (2009–23). Co-founded Kasai Taiga + Chong Aehyang Architecture / KACH in 2020. Currently part-time lecturer at Chōsen University.
